Welcome to the Chaz Draycott Media Formula Renault 3.5 Championship - a series that came about off the back of feedback from drivers that competed in the inaugural running of the CDM Boremula 1 World Championship. Drivers were keen to get another season under way, and speculated about what cars we would be running, instead of the Pro Mazda.

There were hints that a Formula Renault 3.5 Championship, mimicking the Formula 1 cars from around 2004 to 2007 could be fun, but ultimately, a second running of Boremula 1 would continue to use the Pro Mazda, so this theory was quickly put to bed, kind of...

Not wanting to disappoint, I've quickly gotten to work on formulating a simple championship, to showcase this amazing car - the Formula Renault 3.5 has incredible pace, delivering 530 horsepower to the rear wheels via a 3.5 litre V8 engine, hence the name. The car weighs less than 650kg dry though, so is incredibly light and has a remarkable power-to-weight ratio, similar to that of a Formula 1 car.

Previous champions of the real-world Formula Renault 3.5 Series include Robert Kubica, Robert Wickens, Kevin Magnussen and Carlos Sainz Jr., with the likes of Daniel Ricciardo, Pierre Gasly and Nyck de Vries winning Rookie of The Year awards as well.

The racing may not always be as close and door-to-door as you'll see in other formulas, but the cars, and the spectacle they bring is fantastic to watch, with results being thrown up in the air at the drop of a hat, as drivers try to wrestle these unruly beasts.

Unfortunately, the championship and format was retired after one season, but it was fun while it lasted.
